[yes, there certainly wasn't anything mentioning demons, was there?

Though, actually, she isn't the only person here who talked of demons to him, was she -- but, no no, he'll cross that bridge of thought later since she's asked him a question]

I do not know you well enough to comment on if that's the truth or not... though it does seem a rather... opinionated statement.

[Glancing back down at his own device, which still has the profiles up. He scrolls to his own, considering]

A few of the other profiles have similar comments. Mine only has skills listed.

[...]

The jab about me raising everyone's children for them was unnecessary, however.

Yes... and no.

[And here comes the teacher voice, though he's probably been speaking in such tones since they struck up conversation.]

I raised many children, yes, but they became heroes on their own merit. All I did was guide them through various subjects, in order to aid in their dreams.

Peace ebbs and flows, threaded between times of conflict. That is the nature of man, and it's no different where I'm from.

[So yes... and no, spoken as someone who has had many years to observe the world.]

People can change. But human nature is all-together more selfish. That's the fate of every living creature.

[He speaks perhaps too neutrally on the subject, but it's just what he's seen. Everything wants to live knowing they will die, and so the law of nature is built on conflict.

Humans only broadened the scale. But in Archer's eyes, they're not particularly special in this regard]

Is your land undergoing a war right now?

... It involves the demons?

Which means that those who can see them are the ones who will inevitably be drafted into the fight...

[Well, that or assume they've gone crazy. It's a sombering thought either way.]

I see... [A nod of understanding]

I can't fault them for wanting to do so.

[It makes sense when said like that. Not everyone wants to be a hero, or be drafted into a war, or live their life in fear. Depending on who you ask, ignoring demons is the sensible choice]

... Is there a reason you chose to fight, then?

[A slight smile. It isn't... a happy one]

There can be many reasons... but most common? To protect what's theirs. Or to avenge what's been taken from them.

[Mmm... he doesn't enjoy hearing the hollowness, but decides it isn't his right to comment on, either]

You have something you're protecting, then?

Mm. [He doesn't seem particularly bothered by the lack of a detailed reply; that she answered at all is surprising, for he would have accepted just a glare for prying.

So he nods, gently shifting the conversation onward.]

Whatever business you have to attend to back home... with any luck we will not remain here for long, though I admit, seeing as housing and food has been provided...

[He's not going to offer optimism without realism, sorry]
