[ Oof. It's been a while since every part of his body hurt, but Kano just lies at the bottom of the stairs and stares up at the sky. He doesn't cry out, or cry in general, just sort of lies there and stares and then picks himself off the ground, turning his arms over to check out the new bruises he'll be accumulating.

He has a split lip and can taste blood in his mouth and just sorts of licks at the back sides of his teeth to see if any are loose. Head injury? Unclear. If he can stand then it can't be that bad. ]

[ closes my eyes.

this thread is going so many places and oh boy doesn't izumo wish she would have reacted in order to catch him before he fell because now she has to deal with this. something that was totally in her court and her fault. terrible.

she'll be rushing down the stairs to his side but won't stand closer than within a foot of him. ]

I— [ what is the first thing that should come out of her mouth? ] I'm sorry.

[ she brings her hands in front of her hesitantly and unsure if she should touch him anymore after this. ]

Do... Would you let me help you?

Mm...

[ He's quiet, staring at nothing and not looking at Izumo, contemplative more than anything, like he's trying to figure something out but thinking hurts too much and so he just shakes his head in the end, which makes the room spin so he stops that too.

A sigh.

And he puts the smile back on his face. ]

Nope, no need~ There's nothing to be sorry about and nothing to help! You didn't do anything wrong. I told you, didn't I? If you hate me so much, you can do what you just did. It's okay.

his reply has her fluctuates between being furious with herself, worried for him, and furious with him. what the hell!! why is he just standing there like that? what's up with that reaction?

That doesn't mean I can't still help you. [ she clenches her fists by her side. ] And don't go putting words in my mouth; I didn't say that I hated you.

[ yet, she's not saying she likes him because that's a lie and someone should only have so much to say. ]

What's your problem anyway? Shouldn't you be mad at me?

[ There's nothing to help, after the fact. The pain is dull, everywhere, throbbing every time he makes even the smallest movement, but there is no grimace at the pain. Just thoughtfulness. Very evening calm. ]

Why should I be mad at you? You're not in the wrong. It's not your fault.

[ she would entirely be up to yell at him for his remark, but instead she doesn't and loses all idea of what she's supposed to do with her hands. honestly, it's unfair that she can get so mad at him and cause a fuss but he won't show the same.

Yeah, I'm stupid.

[ And frustrating, and unfair. But he will not get mad, and won't ever blame her for hurting him— it's only physical pain, anyways, and so what? ]

I tripped and fell and that's all there is to it, alright?

[ his reaction... the way that he's going about it—it pisses her off. what's the deal with this? why is he like this?? it's almost like dealing with another person but somehow worse. ]

That wasn't all there was to it.

[ there were all of the events leading up to the reason why he fell in the first place and the fact that he "fell" is false with the fact that she was the one who pushed him. ]

[ a false start as izumo straightens herself up and looks at kano dead in the face. ]

Let me look you over to see if you didn't hurt anything seriously.

[ nothing to be done about bumps and scratches, really. ]

[ Surprise... the Kano everybody sees is a whole other person... and it really is somehow worse, the calm and the quiet that he can't just squash down and go back to being loud and obnoxious now that Izumo has seen otherwise. Really, he hates this a lot. Bumps and bruises are nothing. He can walk okay, he doesn't have a massive throbbing headache, nothing is hurt seriously. ]

You won't leave me alone until I do, right?

[ So he stands still, arms out to either side of him. T-posing in surrender. ]

[ it's less about kano himself but more about who he reminds her of and that's just an unfortunate association but nevertheless she's going check him over, clearing her throat and steeling herself before she does. ]

[ or, well, for that moment. perhaps it's bold of her to do this (no, it's definitely bold), but it's the least she can do. ...even if she's severely inexperienced. she'll gloss over his arms mainly just testing to see if there is anything major or anything that stands out. (says the girl with open sores on his hands, still but ignore that. they're also covered.)

really, though, she spends most of the time examining his head—particularly the part where he smacked when he took his tumble. any lumps? there is the matter of his split lip but uh. hmmm. ]

[ He shrugs in response, keeping his eyes closed to spare both of them the awkwardness of eye contact, so he doesn't have to see how close she's looking, and so he won't flinch every time he feels her poke and prod. The latter, of course, fails; he still withdraws slightly out of reflex at every touch, no matter how slight.

His sleeves go halfway to his wrists, covering up most of the bruising that would otherwise be there, but both arms (there are only two this time) appear to be straight and unbroken. Outside of the bruising, there seem to be some old cuts and scars- mostly faded, but that just gives a sense of how old they must be.

His face looks stupid. There are some fading scars there too, on the chin and cheek and temple. His hair is dry and rough and hide no bumps. His split lip is bleeding... but Kano's got that covered, biting and sucking on it in a way that must be painful, but it's something to focus on. ]

[ he shrugs and she sighs. as her fingers come across the sensitive parts of him and uncover scars, scratches, and cuts from new and old, izumo just frowns. it's because he has his eyes shut that she frowns and perhaps takes a bit longer to look at them than she should. it's not as though she knows any home cure to take better care of them, or, for some of them, that there’s even anything left that she could do. injuries like these just take care of themselves. most of them, at least.

We’ve only been here four days. Did you get in a fight with someone…or something?

[ her voice is uncharacteristically soft (a stranger to herself) but the way he flinches and tries to suck it up—it drains the anger that she held earlier and transforms it into frustration. there's nothing she can do other than map out where how badly he’s hurt. whether under the influence of the weekly effect or not, izumo’s fingers brush against the side of his face where his split lip was most prominent. ]

You should at least do something about your lip. [ she takes a step back from him and removes her hands from him, keeping them at her sides. ] I’ll ask my leader for something if you won’t.

[ There is nothing he can do but take the time to heal. Even the bleeding and swelling of his lip will go down in time, if he stops messing with it like he is now, but it's for those reasons why he refused Izumo's help. Nothing either of them can do. ]

Nah, I didn't get into a fight.

[ Sometimes you get beat up in a fight. Sometimes... you get beat up because you don't put up a fight. This doesn't matter either.

His eyes do flutter open when he feels the touch on his face, though, no clothing or hair to push aside and thus no reason to touch- but he finds himself frowning only after Izumo's hands leave and fall to her side. ]

I'm not going to bother my leader for something small like this, and you don't need to either. It doesn't bother me at all, so...

[ Pain he can deal with. Even if it stings the most when he tries to smile, lips pulled back in a grin despite it all. ]

[ another sigh and another shake of her head. compared to the personality that she saw before—this one is starting to be a little less annoying. maybe because it feels less for a show. who knows. regardless, the frustration that she feels is less directed at him than the previous which concerns her, honestly. if someone else acted the same way? then what?

nevertheless, when he forces a smile at her and waves off her offer (it wasn’t an offer) her hand will twitch from where they hung. it's obvious to her that it hurts. it must hurt and yet he’s forcing it. it shouldn’t bother her—she shouldn’t bother with it but it does. ]

Don’t bother, huh?

[ cue her giving into the urge to reach up again and touch the area around split. she'll place two fingers—her index and middle—knowingly on a tender area. ]

We’ll see about that.

I'm not sure about wet, but I'm sure having dry lips wouldn't help.

[ He at least wants the blood to stop, licking nervously at his lips once more, but not sucking on it. ]
